Multi-Modal Spatial Transcriptomics

Overview

Spatial transcriptomics elucidates localized immune responses in atherosclerotic coronary artery

This study applied a combined spatial transcriptomics approach using GeoMx® DSP and CosMx™ Spatial Molecular Imager to map immune responses within human coronary arteries across different stages of atherosclerosis. By integrating region-level and single-cell spatial analyses, Propath identified localised immune cell populations, molecular pathways, and cellular interactions associated with plaque development and disease progression, demonstrating the value of multimodal spatial biology for biomarker research.

The work highlights how spatially resolved transcriptomics can reveal biological processes that are not apparent from bulk tissue analysis, and how leveraging the strengths of multiple modalities can provide new insights into the mechanisms driving disease progression and identify potential therapeutic targets.
